Durian ripens at different times across Vietnam’s three growing regions, so the season runs from around April to October. Knowing each region’s calendar helps you time your orders.
Vietnam grows durian in three main regions, and the fruit ripens at a different time in each.
The Mekong Delta comes first, usually from around April to July. Many growers there also bring trees into fruit off-season, so some supply continues late in the year at lower volumes.
The Southeast follows, from around May to July.
The Central Highlands come last, from around July to October. Supply is usually plentiful during this period.
The two most widely grown varieties are Ri6 and Dona (Monthong). Exact timing shifts with the weather from year to year, so when you plan an import it is worth checking the state of the orchards a few weeks ahead. Tell us the variety, fruit size and month you need, and Thai Hao will let you know which region has suitable fruit.
